Engineer/Senior Engineer - Coupled/Hydrodynamic Analysis
ARE YOU READY TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF FLOATING OFFSHORE WIND?
SO ARE WE!
Join us to turn ambition into reality. Odfjell Oceanwind is at the forefront of floating offshore wind turbine development, delivering sustainable and reliable energy solutions. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy by pioneering cutting-edge designs for harsh environments. Supported by Odfjell Drilling and Odfjell Technology, we combine innovation, expertise, and determination to shape the future of floating offshore wind.
About the Role:
We are seeking a Engineer or Senior Engineer with expertise in hydrodynamic and coupled analysis of floating offshore structures to join our growing team. In this role, you will drive the development of our floating offshore wind turbine designs, contributing to projects that challenge conventional approaches and redefine what is possible in offshore wind. You will play a pivotal role in improving our designs' safety, efficiency, and reliability while collaborating with a world-class team of engineers and innovators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct time-domain coupled analysis using OrcaFlex to evaluate and enhance our floating wind turbine and mooring system designs.
- Drive improvements to methods and models for assessing dynamic floater performance and wave-structure interactions.
- Optimize mooring system design, ensuring station-keeping performance under varying environmental conditions.
- Implement and improve turbine models and their control systems for accurate coupled response predictions.
- Plan, execute, and interpret hydrodynamic model testing, validating and tuning numerical models.
- Develop and enhance in-house Python tools to support the coupled analysis.
- Collaborate closely with engineers across disciplines to ensure designs meet high standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in floater, mooring, and turbine integration, applying this knowledge to our processes.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, visualizations, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- A Master's or PhD degree in Marine Technology, Ocean Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
- 4-10 years of experience in advanced numerical analysis of floating offshore structures, with expertise in:
- Time-domain coupled analysis (OrcaFlex proficiency is required)
- Hydrodynamic radiation/diffraction analysis
- Mooring system design and analysis
- Structural analysis (beneficial)
- Strong knowledge of ocean environment modeling and environmental loading on floating structures.
- Excellent programming skills in Python for tool development and data processing.
- Experience with wind turbine control systems.
- Experience with hydrodynamic model testing, including planning, follow-up, and model validation.
- Familiarity with relevant DNV practices, rules, and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills in Norwegian and English, with a demonstrated ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Passion for renewable energy and a commitment to developing sustainable solutions.
Why Join Us?
We are building a pioneering organization to lead the design and operation of floating offshore wind turbines in the world's harshest environments. At Odfjell Oceanwind, you'll join a highly capable technical team, backed by decades of experience in offshore engineering.
We offer a competitive compensation package, great benefits, and-most importantly-a chance to shape the future of floating offshore wind. With us, you'll have the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a lasting impact.
The position is based in Oslo, but occasional attendance in Bergen or Stavanger is expected.
