Energy Markets is the business unit responsible for maximizing the value of Hydro's power and gas portfolio and for providing energy portfolio management for our aluminum activities in Europe, the US and Brazil. Hydro Energia is Hydro's Power Trading Company in Brazil, responsible for sourcing power to Brazil's largest consumer and within the top 5 biggest proprietary traders in the BR market. We manage the power sourcing of the group's industries in the country, as well as support the renewable generation initiatives. With a wide range of clients and products, Energia has a solid name in the market and a strong technical foundation.
Hydro Energia's Market Intelligence department develops electricity price forecasts for the short, medium and long terms. We also follow and analyze power system and power market in Brazil, staying on top of the latest and most relevant developments. We offer tailor maid, high value and specialized products to our main clients.
As a Senior Scientist, you will be part of Hydro Energia's Market Intelligence team. The position is seated in Oslo, and you will work next to the Energy Markets department in Energy in Norway, while supporting the organization in Brazil and reporting to the Market Intelligence Manager in Brazil.
You will coordinate projects and processes related to long-term electricity price forecasting, providing technical support to key business decisions. Your role will involve monitoring energy sector developments, contributing to regulatory discussions, and offering technical leadership to drive team growth and strategic initiatives.
Location: Seats in Oslo, reports to Market Intelligence Manager in Brazil
Areas of responsibility
- Development of medium and long-term prospecting studies of the Brazilian electric energy system
- Forecasting the expansion of electricity generation and transmission matrices in Brazil
- Long-term hourly Brazilian electricity price forecasting with BID3 model
- Understanding and modeling new technologies and regulations (batteries, green hydrogen, demand response, etc.)
- Development of ad-hoc studies and projects
- Presentations and debates on the developed studies
- Technical support for the decisions of the Trading and Commercial teams in Brazil
- Monitoring and contributing to public consultations in the sector related to electricity price formation
- Technical leadership of the team's projects and processes
- Collaboration in the technical and professional development of the team
- Involvement in strategic planning activities and new business development
Desired qualifications
- Master's degree in relevant fields such as economics, mathematics, statistics, optimization, computer science, or engineering (other subjects may be relevant)
- Solid experience from the power industry and power markets
- Experience in proposing and structuring new processes, models, and studies
- Experience with the BID3 model is a differential, but not required
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, as well as programming competency in Python
- Proficiency in the Office Suite, including Power BI
- Experience with cross-culture environment and cross-functional teams
- English fluency is required, knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish will be positive, but not required
