Oda is looking for a Senior Digital Designer!
Oda built Norway’s leading online grocery store and now, along with Mathem in Sweden, we’re focused on offering our customers affordable grocery services to make the logistics of living surprisingly easy.
We are now seeking an experienced digital designer to join our design community and the Shopper Platform product team. Shopper Platform is responsible for everything customer-facing in the Oda and Mathem services: the apps, the webshop, marketing tooling, newsletters, notifications, payment, accounts, and customer service, plus a lot of the tooling behind the scenes that make that possible: our CMS (Sanity), our communications system (Iterable), our design systems, our customer service platform, and lots more.
It’s a big cross-functional team with a huge domain – but all the easier to do big things and really have an impact! Oda and Mathem compete on the quality of our superior user experience, and we intend to keep raising the bar.
What you’ll do as a Senior Digital Designer with us
- Design new solutions to meet customer needs: Oda and Mathem are trying to make the logistics of living for Scandinavian families surprisingly easy: how can we make it easy to order every week, remember what you need, figure out what’s for dinner, find new things to try, and make sure you get your order delivered.
- Lead projects from start to finish: As a senior designer, you will lead projects with other team members from initial idea through production. While we’re seeking someone strong in digital/visual design, we expect all designers to have a “full-stack attitude”; you should be able to go from customer insight, through shaping, concept development, tech implementation, to testing and analyzing impact.
- Raise the craft and quality of our brand design language and the design systems powering it. We maintain 3 clients (iOS, Android, Web) for 2 brands (Oda and Mathem) with 2 themes each (light and dark). Design systems make that possible, and we expect you to take some ownership here. Use system thinking and visual design skills to keep our products looking relevant, cohesive, and on-brand.
To be successful in this role, we believe you need to have…
- A portfolio of shipped, high-quality consumer-facing digital products, across web and mobile app platforms demonstrating exceptional visual and UI design skills.
- 8+ years experience working in cross-functional product teams with close collaboration with developers.
- Previous experience serving as a lead designer or project lead, taking responsibility for seeing projects through to completion.
- A love of talking to end-users and the ability to run small customer insight sessions to capture concept feedback or check usability.
- Strong technical skills; you should know client platform capabilities and how code works. You should be versed in iOS, Android, and web best practices, along with accessibility principles. Prototyping, whether in Figma or directly in code, should be a natural part of your workflow.
- Great design communication skills. Strong rationale for design decisions, narrative to new concepts, great and concise updates to stakeholders, useful feedback to colleagues.
- Language proficiency: English is our working language, but as this is a customer-facing design job, we expect you to have at least intermediate skills in Norwegian or Swedish.
To thrive in this role, we’re looking for…
- A full-stack design attitude. While you might lean towards the “design the thing right” side of the design process, we expect all designers to take on insight, concept, structure, visual design, and production. We don’t do handovers.
- Business acumen. You should care about making business impact as much as customer value.
- Optimism in the face of uncertainty. Oda is an adventure. There are lots of opportunities for growth and you’ll learn a ton, but things change quickly and you’ll thrive if you see value in what change brings.
What we offer
- A modern “product” way of working with empowered, cross-functional teams, democratized access to data, the best tools, and a sustainable work rhythm. We ship.
- A strong community of designers, working across Oda and Mathem in graphic design, UX design, content design, and UX research.
- A company culture that values kindness, transparency, teamwork, and taking action.
- Modern office located in Tøyen with an amazing subsidized canteen by Naked Lunch.
- A flexible work schedule with a healthy work-life balance to ensure you have space for life. To be clear, this is not a fully remote job: most people are at Tøyen at least 3 days a week.
As a part of Oda you’ll will be working with enthusiastic, skilled and ambitious people, shaping tomorrow’s shopping experience. Come build the future with us!
Oda is committed to being an inclusive community, cultivating diversity, equity and belonging into our everyday workplace culture.
