We are now looking for an engineer with a mechanical or naval engineering background to join our Boat Technical Department. This role will be instrumental in customer projects and product development within our Lifeboat and Davit business—where VIKING is a market leader in Offshore, Merchant Marine, and Renewable Energy safety solutions.
About the role
As a key member of our Boat Technical team in Arendal, you will collaborate with colleagues worldwide. Our industry relies on compliance with strict regulations and standards. If you have experience in regulatory frameworks, independent verification, and class requirements, and can communicate how innovative solutions comply with these standards, you will be a great fit for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in customer projects and product development related to lifeboat and davit safety systems.
- Maintain and enhance products and technical documentation to comply with the latest regulations, international standards, and company QHSE guidelines.
- Adapt products and technical documentation to align with customer requirements and contract specifications.
- Provide technical support across various departments within VIKING’s product range.
- Assist in handling non-conformities (NCs) and claims.
Your background
We are looking for a team player who is structured, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. You should have strong communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechatronics, etc.)
- Professional experience in the oil and gas industry or a related sector is an advantage, but new graduates are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience in the defense industry is also regarded as advantageous.
- Understanding of technology, engineering practices, and regulatory frameworks.
Personal Skills:
- Structured and self-driven – capable of working independently, with the ability to work on complex projects with limited predefined parameters, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills – able to collaborate effectively across various levels of an organization.

- Proficient in English (spoken and written).
