Are you passionate about Metallurgy, Failure analysis, Metallography and Material testing? Do you have a background in mechanical engineering and want to work with advanced metallurgical investigations? IKM Inspection AS is expanding our Metallurgical Department and is looking for a skilled Metallurgist and Metallographer to join our team in Norway!
About the Role:As a Metallographer or Metallurgist, you will be responsible for performing onsite and laboratory-based metallographic examinations and material testing for a wide range of industries, including oil & gas, energy, and manufacturing. You will work with advanced laboratory equipment and support clients with high-quality material assessments.

Key Responsibilities:- Prepare and analyze metallographic specimens using grinding, polishing, and etching techniques.
- Perform microstructural evaluations using optical microscopy.
- Conduct hardness testing (HV, HRC, HBW) and chemical composition analysis (PMI XRF/OES).
- Perform roughness measurements and basic mechanical testing.
- Assist in onsite Metallurgy examinations when required.
- Dimensional inspection of components for use in onshore and offshore production, as per customer requirements and drawings
- Document findings and assist in technical report preparation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (ASTM, ISO, NORSOK, etc.).
- Metallurgist: Strong understanding of mechanical and corrosion testing
- Metallurgist: Use optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for material characterization.
- Metallurgist: Perform failure analysis to determine root causes of material defects or fractures.
- Technical education in mechanical-materials engineering or a related field.
- Experience in metallography and material testing.
- Knowledge of metallurgical preparation techniques and microscopy.
- Familiarity with Metallurgy procedures and material properties.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Metallurgist: Knowledge of metallurgical standards (ASTM, ISO, NORSOK, etc.).
- Metallurgist: Experience with optical and electron microscopy (SEM, EDS).
- Metallurgist: Familiarity with welding procedures, heat treatment, and material behavior under various conditions
- Metallurgist: Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Strong attention to detail and structured work approach.
