Postdoc in “3D chromatin structures and human diseases”
A 2-year postdoc position is available at the University of Oslo, Akershus University Hospital Campus
We search for a highly motivated researcher who together with the research groups of Professor Anita Göndör at the University of Oslo and at Karolinska Institutet will join the final stages of a high risk/high gain project that aims at understanding the mechanism of oncogene gating to nuclear pores for gene regulation in cancer. The project is expected to uncover novel principles driving tumor evolution and hitherto unknown therapeutic targets.

The group has innovated state-of-the-art techniques enabling the analysis of 3D chromatin structures and chromatin fibre networks in single cells and small cell populations to provide unique opportunities for novel discoveries. Model systems are exclusively based on human cell lines and unique, well-characterized patient material, such liquid and solid tumors as well as muscle and adipose tissues.
The research group is located at the Department of Clinical Molecular Biology at Akershus University Hospital where it is a part of the Division of Medicine and Laboratory Sciences, which is the largest division at the Akershus University Hospital Campus, with approximately 40 university employees. The Department has a large and well-equipped molecular biology laboratory that enables advanced translational research. Research themes include: Genome Stability, Cancer Genomics and Cancer Biology, Neurological diseases

Arbeidsoppgaver
Job descriptions
The successful applicant will employ state-of-the-art epigenomic techniques adapted to the analyses of single cells to identify key features underlying the phenomenon of enhancer-mediated gene gating and its circadian regulation. Hands-on experience in advanced experimental techniques is essential. The position might involve a short-term visit to Karolinska Institutet for the purpose of technology transfer. This exciting position may be extended based on the availability of additional funding.
Kvalifikasjoner (overskrift)
Qualification requirementsTo be eligible for a researcher position, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate, preferably within the past 1-4 years.
Other requirements
A PhD in relevant research areas (e.g. molecular and cellular biology) is mandatory. A strong scientific track record, supported by published papers particularly on the subject of chromatin/nuclear architecture research in well-recognized peer-reviewed journals and previous experience in single cell techniques (DNA FISH, scRNA-seq etc) is advantageous. A high level of organizational and communicative skills, as well as an ability to independently perform experiments and implement interpretation of data is mandatory.
We can offer
An exciting and stimulating research environment
A standard researcher salary
Attractive welfare benefits and a generous pension agreement.
A career development programme designed for researchers at the beginning of their career.
Submissions
All applicants must apply electronically via webcruiter and the application must include the below documents:
- Application letter (Cover Letter), including a 1-2 page motivation statement and research interests. A summary on publication record is mandatory
- CV (summarizing education, positions, academic work, scientific publications and
other relevant activity) - Copies of educational certificates and grades
- List of publications and academic work that the applicant wishes to be considered
by the evaluation committee. - Names and contact details of 2-3 referees (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and
telephone number).
Interviews with the best qualified candidate will be arranged.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to complete the project in the course of the period of employment.
Candidates are welcome to contact Anita Göndör (a.k.gondor at medisin.uio.no) directly through email for discussion before their formal submission.
