Do you want to take the lead in managing all legal activities at a global energy company?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join INPEX Idemitsu Norge in Oslo. In this pivotal role, you will lead and manage all legal activities, ensuring the company’s compliance with international and national laws, internal policies, and the highest ethical standards. You will play a key role in driving corporate governance, safeguarding INPEX Idemitsu Norge’s interests, and working closely with the Tokyo Legal team and senior management to support and enhance the company’s operations. This position reports directly to the Managing Director of INPEX Idemitsu Norge and INPEX Headquarters in Tokyo.

Your key responsibilities will be: 

• Management: Lead and manage all legal activities and legal disputes
• Legal Advisory: Provide legal advice and guidance to the management and other internal stakeholders on various legal matters and disputes (e.g., petroleum laws, renewable energies, contract laws, commercial, finance, employment). Advise and support M&A deals, including sale and purchase of production licenses and companies.  
• Contract Review: Advise, draft, review and participate in negotiations of a wide range of agreements
• Compliance: Monitor and implement compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies
• Regulatory Compliance: Regulatory follow-up of the company’s activities, especially petroleum activities and CCS
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks in the company’s business
• Stakeholder Management: Work collaboratively with the Tokyo Legal team, internal teams and external stakeholders, in particular license partners, the relevant authorities and industry associations to ensure comprehensive legal support
• Manage Extenal Counsel: Engage and coordinate with external legal counsel
• Manage all other legal day-to-day work

Experience and qualifications:

• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in private practice and/or as in-house counsel. Relevant experience within oil and gas section.
• Master of law degree in Norway
• Qualified for the Norwegian Bar
• Fluent in English and Norwegian both orally and in writing
• Experience in complex contract negotiations and comprehensive understanding of international contract law
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
