Service Engineer, Marine Automation

Valmet is known for its reliable marine automation. We have been intensively present onboard all types of ships where our solutions play an integral role. Our target is to make the vessels greener, more efficient and more profitable, thanks to the use of advanced automation and scrubber solutions.
We are now looking for a Service Engineer within Marine Automation to our office in Norway/Lier or Poland/Gliwice.
As a Service Engineer your work will focus on these responsibilities:
Planning and conduct service on demand, upgrades, retrofits and commissioning for our customers worldwide.
Analyzing software/hardware failures through remote support to ship-owner / ship personnel on high-end automation systems mainly in the cruise ship market
Troubleshooting / fault-finding / correction of software and hardware onboard sailing vessels.
Warranty handling in newly built ships
You will shine in this role, when you have:
Experience with Automation systems (SCADA)
Experience within PLC programming
Experience/knowledge of OOP languages such as C++/C#
Experience/ knowledge of computer programming/setup/industrial communication standards both serial and TCP/IP (e.g. Modbus, NMEA…)
Experience/ knowledge of system networks/ network routing/setup of network components
Experience/ knowledge of industrial Cyber security standards/requirements
Experience with technical troubleshooting on the computer and electronic equipment
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; automation and programming
Independent, self-propelled skilled engineer with good prioritization and decision-making skill.
Eager to learn and overcome challenges with success
Have good interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team and good organizational skills
Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
Preferably previous experience within the Maritime Industry
Able to obtain security clearance according to National Security Authority regulations
Knowledge of marine systems/power management systems power plants/engine systems will be considered as an asset. If you are a certified electrician, it’s beneficial.
This position requires a lot of traveling at times, with approximately 80 -100 traveling days annually, on ships or Marine floating devices. Usually accommodated onboard on the vessel/ship.
You need to be able to have English as a working language, any other additional languages are considered an asset. It is also beneficial if you are experienced in working abroad.
