Senior System Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior System Engineer to join our IT team in Bergen. This is a hands-on role, requiring on-site work in a data center environment—not a cloud-only position. You will be responsible for managing and optimizing critical infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.

Main Responsibilities

• Manage, maintain, and optimize on-premise infrastructure, including 13 racks of servers (up to 42 devices).
• Work with VMware Vsphere, VMware Cloud Foundation, VMware Horizon / Omnissa to support virtualization and infrastructure.
• Manage IBM SAN storage (FlashSystem/Storwize) and IBM Scale cluster file systems to ensure storage reliability and performance.
• Oversee backup solutions using Veeam B&R and IBM Protect to safeguard critical data.
• Maintain and monitor Lenovo/Dell servers using XClarity and OpenManage for optimal performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support StormGeo’s containerization journey and infrastructure modernization.
• Ensure security, reliability, and scalability of systems in a high-availability environment.
• Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proactive maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Document procedures, configurations, and best practices to maintain operational efficiency.

Core Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in system engineering, IT infrastructure, or data center operations.
• Strong expertise in VMware technologies.
• Hands-on experience managing SAN storage, backup solutions, and server hardware.
• Understanding of on-premise data center operations and best practices.
• Familiarity with containerization and modern infrastructure approaches.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
