About the division and the Marin Ecology group
The division consists of three departments: Ocean and Environment, Biotechnology and Circular economy, and Climate Systems. The researchers of the division conduct research on past, present and future climate systems, as well as research and development for sustainable use and management of the environment and natural resources.
This position will be placed in the Marine ecology group in the Ocean and Environment Department.
Researchers in the Marine Ecology group focus on characterization of environmental contaminants (including microplastic) and study how ecosystems are affected by human activity, climate change and pollution. Together with researchers across NORCE, methodology and technology to monitor the coast, fjord and sea is developed. Our researchers evaluate environmental risk and work with industry and administration to ensure knowledge-based decision support. The Marine Ecology group has key activities related to the green shift and together with colleagues across NORCE our researchers lead major projects related aquaculture and marine based industries.
About the position
We hereby announce a position as Research Director in the Marine Ecology group. The Marine Ecology group is based in Mekjarvik, just outside Stavanger, with some members in Bergen. The research director has the academic responsibility for the group, including coordinating responsibility for developing research fields and new research ideas. The research director also has personnel responsibility for employees in the research group as well as responsibility for the professional development for the individual, and the group as a whole. Furthermore, the research director also has HSE responsibility for activities carried out in the research group. The research director will have overall responsibility for NORCE's Marine research Centre in Mekjarvik, with multiple laboratories and a research hall for experiment involving marine species The research director must deliver on given key indicators for the activity, including responsibility for the result in the group's project portfolio. In addition to research management, the position has a research component. This will vary in relation to the size of the group and by further agreement.
Work tasks
The research director is part of the department's management group and will play an important role in the strategic development of the department. The research director will participate in defining the department's research strategy, facilitate applications across research groups and departments in NORCE, and contribute to general and strategic research dissemination from the department. The research director shall follow up the group's members, applications, and project portfolio, including holding regular research group meetings, following up timekeeping and project coverage. In addition, ensuring quality assurance of project applications and projects in collaboration with project managers. The research director shall facilitate good collaboration within the research group and across the research groups in the department, as well as in NORCE across locations.
Place of work: Mekjarvik (Stavanger)
Some travelling must be expected.
Competence requirements
The research director must have a higher relevant scientific background (preferably PhD level). Experience from working in industry (aquaculture or marine sector) and applied project work (innovation projects) is a great advantage.
We are looking for a solution-oriented, creative and motivating research director with excellent leadership and collaboration skills and documented competence in relevant scientific disciplines (eg Chemistry, Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Ecology). The applicant must have documented leadership experience and experience from personnel management. Applicants should have research experience and experience in designing offers / applications for public funding, including EU.
The research leader will be a driving force in the further development of the group and the department in NORCE.
