Green Mountain is expanding into Germany with a cutting-edge data center in Mainz. This project, a joint venture with the German energy provider KMW, leverages their combined expertise to create one of the region’s most sustainable data centers. Situated in an established industrial area near Frankfurt, the center will be powered entirely by renewable energy and will utilize innovative cooling techniques from the nearby Rhine River. Advancing smoothly, with construction officially underway since September 2023, this facility aims to set new benchmarks for green infrastructure in Germany.

About the role:
The Data Center Build Director will hold a key leadership role in overseeing the construction of Green Mountain’s new data center in Mainz. You will collaborate closely with the Norwegian Project Management Office (PMO) to align with Green Mountain’s global standards and leverage existing expertise.
You will oversee a team of project managers, ensuring they have the skills and resources needed to handle multiple projects. By leveraging PMO frameworks and methodologies, you will ensure high-quality execution of construction projects, coordinating closely with Norwegian project managers to optimize workflows, share knowledge, and resolve challenges. Your role will also involve aligning local execution with the strategic direction set by the Norwegian office, ensuring smooth project progression and stakeholder communication.
This position requires effective cross-border collaboration to deliver data center builds that meet both local requirements and Green Mountain’s global standards for sustainability and efficiency.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a practical, self-driven leader with a strong background in managing large-scale construction projects. You thrive in dynamic environments, possess a practical mindset, and are comfortable making critical decisions. Your passion for sustainability and ability to navigate the complexities of international project management are essential. With a proven track record of leadership in construction or infrastructure projects, you have documented success in completing projects on time and within budget.
The ideal candidate has extensive project experience, thrives on being on-site, and understands the frameworks necessary for successful deliveries. You excel in collaboration and adaptability, unifying practices across the organization. As a people leader, you inspire teams and communicate clearly.
A deep understanding of German culture is crucial for fostering strong relationships with local contractors and stakeholders.
We prefer that you have:
- A degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Extensive experience managing large infrastructure or technical facility projects.
- PMP or PRINCE2 certification is an advantage but not required.
- Knowlegde of the datacenter industry is an advantage
- Knowledge of German construction laws and regulatory standards.
- Fluency in both German and English is essential; Norwegian is a plus.
- Willingness to relocate to Germany, with support provided, or be based in the Frankfurt/Mainz area.

Office Location
The permanent office location will be at the site in Mainz, Germany (with relocation support), and travel to ongoing projects and existing sites should be expected.
