We are seeking a skilled and motivated Researcher/Bioinformatician to join our Precision Medicine team to cover a maternity leave.
We are focused on the implementation of extended molecular diagnostics using next-generation sequencing (NGS) for personalised cancer treatment and inclusion in clinical studies. The activities of this position are closely related to the national network InPreD (Infrastructure for Precision Diagnostics). The successful candidate will support ongoing projects on genomics, focusing on NGS data analysis and computational workflows. Job descriptions
- Process and analyse NGS data.
- Work with common file formats such as FASTQ, BAM, and VCF.
- Perform bioinformatics workflows, including read mapping, variant calling, and other genomic data processing tasks.
- Utilise and manage HPC cluster resources for large-scale data processing.
- Maintain version control and collaborative code development using Git.
- Develop and optimise scripts and pipelines using Bash, R, and Python.
- Work with bioinformatics tools such as SAMtools, Snakemake and other related softwares.
- Collaborate with team members and researchers to support ongoing genomics projects.
Qualification requirements
Required:
- PhD within Bioinformatics or related discipline. MSc will be considered with proven experience.
- Experience working with NGS data, including common file formats and standard bioinformatics methods.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently within a team environment.
- Working language: English
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a research or clinical genomics setting.
- Experience with data generated by TSO500 Illumina panel.
- Experience with TSD.
- Containerisation technologies (docker, singularity/apptainer).
- Familiarity with GitHub/GitLab or similar.
- Norwegian language proficiency.

- Flexibility to handle shifting priorities with strict deadlines while maintaining efficiency.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, engaging effectively with internal and external teams.

There is good access to research support through research administrators, library services, statisticians and the Clinical Trials Unit, as well as dedicated support staff for privacy issues, biobanking and innovation.
