Job description

A full-time position as Professor/ Associate Professor of Medicine (Paediatrics) is available at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The position is combined with a part-time (20 %) position as Senior Consultant at Oslo University Hospital within any of the clinical departments in the Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The applicant must qualify for and become employed in both positions.

The Department of Paediatric Research including laboratory facilities is localized at the Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet. Researchers from the clinical research groups within the Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine perform their laboratory experiments in the department. The research activities relate to a broad specter of diseases in newborns, children and adolescents, including general and specialized paediatrics, neonatology, paediatric neurology and habilitation and rare disorders. Research support for the Division is an important task for the Department of Paediatric Research, including a planned broad research biobank within paediatrics and a clinical research unit.

According to the regulations at the Faculty of Medicine, the person appointed will lead and initiate research, supervise researchers, participate in teaching students and research fellows and undertake duties in connection with examinations, as well as undertaking administrative tasks as required by the prevailing regulations.

Qualification requirements

For Associate Professor:

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications within specialized paediatrics.
  • Applicants should hold an MD, clinical specialty status in paediatrics and have sufficient experience in clinical paediatrics to teach medical students broadly within the major fields.
  • Educational competence will count positively. Applicants who do not have documented basic university pedagogical competence must acquire this within two years from appointment.
  • Documentation of qualifications in dissemination, management and administration will count positively.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) are a prerequisite for performing all the tasks associated with the position. Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language at the time of appointment are given a deadline of two years to learn Norwegian.

For Professor:

  • Substantial academic production in excess of that which is required for a doctoral degree within specialized paediatrics.
  • Applicants should hold an MD, have formal specialty in paediatrics and have sufficient experience in clinical paediatrics to teach medical students broadly within the major fields of paediatrics.
  • Prolonged research activity with an independent research profile.
  • Documented basic university pedagogical competence. This requirement may be waived in special cases, but must then be met within two years from appointment.
  • Broad experience in the development and implementation of teaching, supervision and work with educational quality
  • Good qualifications in dissemination and/or management and administration
  • Good communication skills both written and oral in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) are a prerequisite for performing all the tasks associated with the position. Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language at the time of appointment are given a deadline of two years to learn Norwegian.

Personal skills
  • High ambitions are expected.
  • She or he should have the ability to build a research environment based on high scientific quality within an area of specific importance for the Division.
  • Applicants should have the ability to create an attractive and stimulating academic environment within the Department, be able to attract PhD students and postdocs, and have a keen ability to develop the discipline towards novel scientifically based high standards in order to improve patient care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create an attractive research environment will be emphasized. Active collaboration, also interdisciplinary and internationally is expected.

We offer
  • Salary from kr 780 000 to kr 900 000 depending on competencies, in the position of Associate Professor (position code 1011)
  • Salary from kr 900 000 to kr 1 020 000 depending on competencies, in the position of Professor (position code 1013)
