Researcher (position code 1109) - brain imaging genetics

Job description

The position is available at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at University of Oslo, as part of the Centre for Precision Psychiatry. The centre leverages large data sets of multimodal brain imaging, genetics and clinical data to research the biological underpinnings of severe mental disorders. The research at hand is conducted in close collaboration with researchers at the University of Tübingen, Germany.

More about the position

The position is funded for two years.

• The researcher will perform analyses of large and complex data sets, spanning brain imaging, genetics and clinical data.
• The goal is to reveal more of the genetic architecture underlying brain structure and function and to improve our understanding of the neurogenetic mechanisms underlying mental disorders.

The project is based in Oslo (Norway) with optional mobility to Tübingen (Germany) as the project PI coordinates projects in both places (https://www.kaufmannlab.org/), e.g. short- or long-term stays and frequent exchange with researchers in both places.

Qualification requirements

Applicants should have a completed PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. neuroscience, biology, statistical genetics).

The ideal candidate:

• Is ambitious and highly motivated to deliver high quality research
• Has excellent data analysis skills, including solid knowledge of imaging genetics and statistics
• Has hands-on experience with high performance computing and large-scale data-analysis of neuroimaging and genetics data
• Is knowledgeable in programming languages and platforms such as python, R, Linux
• Is goal oriented and enjoys working within a cross-disciplinary team
• Has expertise in scientific writing, visible in a publication track record, awards, etc.
• Has a strong command of English
• Is interested in psychiatric genetics and longitudinal brain dynamics.
