About the positions

A permanent position is available at the Department of Education for an Associate Professor in Educational Psychology within the areas of children or youth’s language and/or reading development. Relevant research interests comprise language and/or reading difficulties, individual differences in language and/or reading development, or the effects of pedagogical measures to strengthen children and youth’s language and/or reading development.

The appointee must be able to lead and initiate research, supervise doctoral degree students, participate in teaching and examination work at all levels, and undertake administrative tasks, in accordance with applicable provisions.


Job description

The appointee is expected to:

  • Strengthen research on children or youth’s language and/or reading development
  • Teach at the bachelor- and master-level programs in pedagogical-psychological counselling
  • Contribute to one of the faculty of educational sciences’ research groups
  • Participate in national and international research networks
  • Participate in the collective development of our education programs
  • Collaborate with the pedagogical-psychological counseling services (for instance related to practice)
  • Contribute to research dissemination and external fund-raising
  • Supervise master's and phd students
  • Perform administrative tasks

The position involves 47 % teaching, 47 % research, and 6 % administrative tasks.


Qualification requirements
  • Doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications within education or other relevant subjects
  • Documented basic university pedagogical competence. Applicants who do not have documented basic university pedagogical competence must acquire this within two years from appointment.
  • Relevant experience, skills, and knowledge to teach at the master-level program in pedagogical-psychological counseling
  • Strong competence and experience in research methods is an advantage and experience with quantitative methodology related to longitudinal and/or experimental designs will count positively.
  • Documentation of qualifications in the field of academic management and administration will count positively.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) in addition to English is a prerequisite for performing all the tasks associated with the position.

In the ranking of applicants, we will emphasize knowledge of and familiarity with the Norwegian pedagogical-psychological counseling services. The criteria that will be considered are the applicant’s academic, professional, and pedagogical qualifications, plus personal qualifications.
