About the position

A 80% position as laboratory engineer is available at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Molecular Medicine, in the research group of Professor Philippe Collas (www.collaslab.org). The group works on nuclear architecture in stem cells and cancer cells. The position is externally funded for a duration of four years. 

The position is financed by the Norwegian Cancer Society for the project “Role and Therapeutic Value of RUNX2 Inhibition in Bone Metastasis”. The project aims to examine the roles of the transcription factor RUNX2 in cancer metastasis to bone and develop new prototype RUNX2 inhibitors. The work involves biochemical and cell biological methods. 


Work tasks
  • Cell culture – including engineering of stable reporter cell lines
  • Cloning – generation, prepping, and verifying expression of plasmid clones
  • Molecular analysis – Immunofluorescence, proximity ligation assay, SDS-PAGE / Western blotting, preparation of samples for LC/MS, immunoprecipitation, purifying RNA/DNA, qPCR, etc.

Qualification requirements
  • Education level: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent in cell and molecular biology

    To be considered, candidates must document prior work experience with all of these methods and tools:

  • Cell culture, cell transfections, proliferation assays, DNA cloning, DNA and RNA purification, qPCR, immunological methods (Western, immunofluorescence, PLA, immunoprecipitation)
  • Daily laboratory operations
  • Writing of protocols and reports 
  • Use of e-lab journal

    Criteria that will be considered as a strong advantage:

  • Knowledge of proteomics sample preparation methods 
  • Knowledge of transcription factors, epigenetics, and gene regulation

Personal skills
  • Motivation and commitment to project support
  • Result-oriented
  • Ability to troubleshoot, work independently and in a team, and take initiatives
  • Excellent spoken and written English 
  • Personal suitability to the work environment
