One researcher position for a period of 3 years is available at the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE), Department of Biostatistics, University of Oslo. The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of departments and units that pursue research and education within basic medical science. The institute has approximately 380 employees and is located in the Domus Medica.
This is an opportunity to join a frontier research group in pathogen genomics and evolutionary modelling, led by prof. Jukka Corander. The researcher position is funded by the JPIAMR project "Fungal Genomics and Antagonistic Community Interactions" for which prof. Jukka Corander is one of the principal investigators.
Job description
The announced position is targeted towards population genomics and epidemiological modeling of the interface between human gut bacteria and pathogenic fungi. The work will be done in close collaboration with several microbiology labs who are members of the project consortium.

Qualifications and Personal Skills:
Candidates must have a PhD in microbiology or related field equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree. Successful candidates must have defended their doctoral thesis prior to starting in this job. They should also have:
- Strong skills in bioinformatics for population genomics and prior research experience of workflows in analysis of large-scale (>1,000) bacterial genome data sets,
- Documented experience about working with lab protocols, including RNAseq and large-scale DNA extraction for both short- and long-read whole-genome sequencing,
- Strong networking and collaborative skills as the employed researcher will need to closely coordinate the Norwegian research effort with Australian, Dutch, Irish, Italian and UK based labs that are part of the funded research consortium.
