The project's objective is to provide an understanding of the effects of injecting cold CO2 into hot reservoirs and the associated risk of caprock failure and failure propagation. Full-scale experiments will be performed at the NGI lab to quantify thermal stresses in a controlled way. Learning from full-scale tests will be used to validate and improve models and increase confidence in the numerical tools' predictive capability, which helps reduce uncertainties when designing monitoring systems and optimizing injection capacity. Thermo-hydro-mechanical modelling of the reservoir/caprock interface will be performed with a focus on thermal stresses, exploring safe injection temperature and pressure, and demonstrating thermal effects on optimized injection strategy.

- Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and completed defence are eligible for appointment.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

- Insight into geological CO2 sequestration
- Seismic inversion and 3D filed-scale geomechanical model building
- Numerical simulation
- Skills in geoscientific software of Petrel, Comsol, Visage, HampsonRussell,
Interactive Petrophysics, PowerLog, Jason - Programming skills (e.g., Python, MatLab, R)
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset
