Called to replace the 964 Cup, the Porsche 911 Carrera Cup model 993 was presented in Frankfurt in 1993, at the same time as the Carrera Street. The Cup version, intended for the Supercup single-make and the various national Porsche official single-make series, was 250 kg lighter than the road-going Carrera. The engine (type M64 / 70) evolved considerably, passing from 3.6 to 3.8 liters, for a power of 310 horsepower. Developed in 1993, the 993 Cup was used starting in 1994. The main evolution, introduced for 1995, saw the adoption of aerodynamic body parts derived from those of the Carrera RS Clubsport. In 1996 the power increased to 315 horsepower and the 1997 season was the last for this model which gave way in 1998 to the 996 Cup model. In total 216 examples of the 993 Cup were built, of which 147 with 310 horsepower and 69 with 315 horsepower engine.
