The Chaplin Collection - Limelight - (2 disc set)

Charlie Chaplin's Limelight is one of his masterpieces, it is the most underrated film of all time in my opinion. The story follows Calvero, played by Chaplin, who is in the twilight of his career as a clown, just as Chaplin was in the twilight of his career as a comedian. Calvero saves a young ballet dancer who has attempted to commit suicide, and cares for her in his apartment. She falls in love with the aging Calvero, or is it pity? Calvero struggles as he has lost touch with his audience, just as Chaplin had at this time in 1952. This film is actually about Charlie Chaplin reflecting on his own career. Some people say it is the most self indulgent film they have ever seen, and Chaplin is just pitying himself at every turn and every opportunity that presents itself. I suppose that statement has some merit to it, however, I don't care, I loved it! Its one of my favorites, and I find it the most underrated film I've seen. If you are a big fan of Chaplin, i think you will love this movie.
