" 72 original lithographs by Miró, including 49 in color, of which 18 are hors-texte. Text by Tristan Tzara. "
"Tristan Tzara had written his text for Parler Seul by 1945; Miró’s lithographs, printed by Mourlot, were not completed until 1950. By rapid successions of absence and presence Tzara evokes confrontations of man with man and of man with the world. Movement, trajectories, and swift passages represent human existence… The verbal flow, never interrupted by the intrusion of capital letters and punctuation, impels the reader toward transgressions, toward the unknown. Miró’s lithographs amplify a text barely thirty pages long: every printed page is decorated, framed, and extended by an illustration, and even more numerous are the pages covered by lively constellations of color without benefit a text… Miró’s characteristic shapes force the printed page to shun all repose and equilibrium; thus they make the dynamism of the text visible by transgressing the expected orderliness of graphic representation…” (Hubert, Surrealism and the Book).
