Fra RoShi Pedals (Google translate):
In the late 1960s, the pedal that all guitarists who love fuzz go through (this is a prejudice) "Big Muff" was born. There are various variations depending on the production period, and the early ones called Triangle have a special presence. Among them, Triangle V1 First, which is said to be the earliest, is made with Parfboard (snake eye board) and is made with "Point To Point" that directly connects parts to parts, and is very unstable and artistic. Perhaps due to the historical background, the sound has the most fuzz-like roughness among the many variations, and even in the thick sound, you can feel the sharp high tones like a knife. This is clearly a feature that is not found in later variations after triangle.
"GRUFF V1" reproduces the sound by studying such Triangle V1 First. And the model developed using the results of that research is "GRUFF result". RoShi Pedals thoroughly compared and developed the Triangle V1 First that they own, and announced "GRUFF V1". I don't think there are many pedals that have been so researched and designed around the historically valuable Triangle V1 First. At least, I have never seen a pedal that sounds close to the one I own.
The main character of this article, "GRUFF result," was developed using data from studying "GRUFF V1." Of course, the original sound is reproduced, but I added the modes I want when using it in a band ensemble. I also took measures against noise from the external power supply and made the case smaller to make it easier to use.
This is a part that everyone is probably interested in, but it was also a struggle. All transistors were measured. I had been collecting them for a while, so I thought I would have enough, but when I actually measured them at the production stage, I didn't get the measurements I wanted at all! In the end, I had to get more, but I managed to secure the number I needed. For the coupling capacitor, which is important for the signal, I used ERO's MKT1813, which was also used in "GRUFF V1." It's an expensive capacitor, but I used it lavishly because I liked the look and sound. I used the larger pot (24mm POT). Usually called 16mm POT, it is compact and is mainly used in effects. However, 24mm POT is tricky, it takes up space and is difficult to install. But 24mm is cooler, so I was tempted to use it. Also, since it is a carbon composite variable resistor, 24mm has a much better sound than 16mm.
The tone switch on the upper right is:
Left: Triangle mode. Reproduces the sound of Triangle V1 first.
Center: Low cut. By cutting the bass, the sound focuses on the treble, which is the greatest attraction of Triangle V1 first.
Right: Hi-Mid boost. Adding high mids improves sound separation. The sound has a contour that stands out even when distorted deeply.
Although the case is smaller, we have developed it without compromise, aiming for a BIG sound. Big Muff is one of the most beloved fuzzes in the world. I think it is one of the few pedals that allows you to experience its early sound. Please try it!
