For the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney’s 1954 live-action classic 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Disney wanted to feature the films famous “Giant Squid” sequence within an elegant mechanical water globe diorama. A Nautilus monogrammed vase, the legs of which are modeled after the shell stanchions of three submarine’s salon, supports a view port similar to that which Captain Nemo surveys the wonders of his watery world. By turning the key at the back of the globe, a mysterious glow reveals the squid pushing up against the glass.
