Moomintroll’s waiting on the first day of spring

The illustration on the Moomin’s Day mug originates from Tove Jansson’s book Moominland Midwinter from 1957 and the book of songs, Visor från Mumindalen from 1993.

Moomintroll and Moominmamma sit close to each other, admiring the reflections of the evening sun on the river. Snufkin always leaves Moominvalley in the fall to go south beyond the Lonely Mountains. He goes without saying goodbye, but leaves a letter for Moomintroll.

“Cheerio, Sleep well and keep your chin up. On the first warm spring day, you’ll have me here again. Build the dam while waiting for me,” Snufkin.

The style of this moment on the bridge shared by Moomintroll and Moominmamma resembles the Moomin’s Day 2018 mug and has gentle colours.
