The 2017 V-Werks Code UVO is the top-end model of Volkl’s Code series of racy, high-performance hard-snow carvers. Its slim, light-but-powerful 3D Ridge construction sets it apart from the other models in the series, which are standard laminate layups. It’s a carbon-rich version of the Code Speedwall L, with a similar waist width and the same rocker profile (early rise tip and tail, camber underfoot). It comes with a special V-Werks-version 12-DIN Marker binding. As part of the V-Werks collection of super-premium skis, it’s built with no sparing of expense on materials. Weight savings is the primary goal, which Volkl achieves not only by replacing fiberglass with carbon at every opportunity, but also by milling channels in the wood core and leaving them empty. Lighter skis usually trade stability at speed, but two sheets of metal and Volkl’s UVO vibration-dampening module mitigate that. The premium construction comes at a premium price: the V-Werks Code retails for $1,450, which is a couple hundred more than the next most expensive model in the line.

Volkl’s Code series includes four models built for strong, edgy, race-like performance on groomed snow, with waist widths of 74-76 mm-not quite narrow enough for racecourse ice, but ideal for carving up firm-to-velvety resort groomers. The top model in the Code series, the V-Werks Code UVO, offers Volkl’s signature 3D Ridge construction, featuring a raised structural ridge down the center of the ski, which allows Volkl engineers to make the ski thinner, lighter, and more sensitive over the edges.
