You can walk to Alkmaar's train station in just ten minutes. You can take the train to Amsterdam and Haarlem or you could rent a bike and explore the area. Across the street from the holiday home you can rent a small boat that you can moor at the rear side of the Alkmaars Grachtje. This way you have your own boat during your stay in Alkmaar! Another tip: visit the famous Cheese Market! Watch this special event on Friday mornings on the Waagplein square, full of cheese and people carrying cheese.
