Saint-Cirq-Lapopie
"The village is a small miracle of medieval beauty: wonderful shops, excellent studios, fine restaurants, friendly citizens." Daniela M; Massachusetts "Coeur de Lion was highly recommended by friends…. It was spectacular!" Carla H; Minnesota (Please note- VRBO now only publishes reviews for people who have booked from its website. We have dozens of additional 5-star reviews from guests which you should be available to find by searching (in English) 'dream house, mythic village'.) Veuillez lire la description complète avant de vous engager pour vos vacances dans notre maison. Merci This could be your most wonderful holiday ever, but please read the entire description to discover if it is the perfect match for you. Our house, from its 12th Century stone foundation to its comfortable beds and fantastic kitchen, is on a quiet street near the center of this small, bustling, gorgeous, medieval artists' village- a short walk to 10 fine restaurants, unique shops, museums, and artist studios, among other things. Nearby there are castles, and ruins, caves and rivers, and markets and vineyards, and gorgeous landscapes for walking and biking. There is a beautiful, refreshing sandy river beach for swimming, kayaking and canoeing. If you have children, the village and the area offer many adventures, including just simply walking the streets, which are too narrow for regular traffic and which wind back and forth on each other so it is hard to get lost. Our children would often wander by themselves to the top of the village for ice cream. It is a short walk (about 70 paces) to the private terrace where we take most of our meals. Actually there are two terraces- on the top one we often play American-style beule/petanque. We carry our dinner in a picnic basket, or for lunch we might just carry a bottle of wine, some cheeses, apples, and a loaf of bread. Sometimes we make coffee and watch the morning arise there. There are a table and chairs that can accommodate up to 10 people, and there are beautiful views across the river. It is just a short walk, and a lovely place to enjoy wine and conversation. The house is cozy and romantic for even a single couple, yet spacious enough for family reunions or a group of friends. This is not a 'luxury' house- there are not servants!- although in the most important ways it is luxurious-very roomy and comfortable, with a topnotch kitchen, great views, and lots of pleasurable details and living spaces. You will be on your own, of course, but we have helpful neighbors and cleaners, and everything you need and all the information you'll need is available at the house. And we will also help you every step of the way, with lots of information on the house, things to do (even two weeks won't exhaust the many, many wonderful activities you can engage in- including as much solitude as you want at the house itself, and in mornings and evenings in spite of the general bustle of the village). If problems arise, most you can handle yourself- or with consultation with us or our cleaners. We have plumbers and electricians and handymen who can help, but in France services aren't as quick or as automatic as they are in the U.S. That said, no matter what happens you cannot help but have a very special, unique, and truly amazing vacation. Be open-minded and flexible, and you may just have the most fun, most unique, and best vacation ever. Just imagine spending time in your own house in the heart of an enchanting and lively medieval village, surrounded by gorgeous fields, limestone cliffs, and a magnificent river, where you can step into the bustle of village life or retreat to the quiet sun-lit privacy of your own home. Beyond the village environs lie castles and markets, cave paintings and cathedrals, museums and vineyards, and the lush countryside. You can bicycle for traffic-free miles along the majestic Lot river. Or canoe for hours along the banks of the river from town to town. Or fish or golf or play tennis. Or simply walk to the local castle or a nearby cafe or the neighboring patisserie. Whether your prefer lazing or action, window gazing or window shopping, dining out or cooking in, day trips or just a stroll to the corner, there is no end of enticing choices in our friendly, inviting village. Please write with any questions. We want to make sure this is the right place for you. * Ranked 'Premier' among France's 'Most Beautiful Villages'
