Double Bedroom 2 with twin beds, double wardrobe and chest of drawers. Spacious lounge with comfortable seating and English satellite TV. Bathroom comprising of bath with shower over, sink unit and toilet. Chez Keordie is situated in the tranquil hamlet of Rouchave in the Charente Maritime region of South West France. Surrounded by stunning sunflower fields in mid summer and acres of immaculate vineyards, which produce world renowned cognac and Bordeaux wines. A short distance away (8.8km), you will find the pretty Medieval town of Pons. Today, the town still boasts 12th century monuments in perfect condition. There are many interesting architectural features, for example the ramparts, the keep, the church of Saint Vivien, the chapel of Saint Gilles, and the Pilgrims' Hospital. Pons provides an assortment of supermarkets, banks, bars and restaurants, a post office and a twice weekly market. Cognac (15km) is an attractive Medieval town with narrow cobbled streets and elegant Renaissance facades. It is here that the world renowned cognac has been created since the 17" century. World famous firms such as Hennessy, Otard, Rémy-Martin and Courvoisier are located here. Join a guided tour to discover the history of Cognac, its vineyards, distilleries and museums which show you not only how it is made but proudly display the oldest reserve of cognacs dating back to 1830. Then how about a taste! Saintes (30 km) is located on the banks of the River Charente. It was the centre of Roman civilisation for the area and also a stopping point for the pilgrims en route for Santiago de Compostela. There remains a well-preserved amphitheatre, thermal baths, triumphal arch and cathedral. With its many restaurants, theatre, indoor swimming pool complex, power boat rental, river cruises and excellent, mainly pedestrianised shops, there is something for everyone. Talmont Sur Gironde (42km) is officially one of the most beautiful villages in France. The enclosed and fortified village was founded around the church of St Radegonde in 1284, on the orders of Edward 1st of England. In the village, whitewashed houses and blue shutters are revealed behind the glorious hollyhocks. Towns and villages around the estuary boast family friendly beaches, quaint shops and restaurants offering fresh seafood and oysters. A variety of local activities are available including golf at one of the various 18 hole courses, Go Karting at St Genis. The Gironde Estuary offers sports opportunities such as swimming, sailing and surfing. Many local towns steeped in history with their beautiful buildings and churches are well worth a sightseeing visit as are the local vineyards who produce cognac, Pineau des Charentes (a regional aperitif, made from a blend of lightly fermented grape must and Cognac eau de vie) and wine.
