Spacious Gite With Fishing Lake, Pool & Gardens In Peaceful, Rural Setting

Set in the Limousin national park on the edge of the Forest of Rochechouart, surrounded by open fields and woodland, Lac de la Grange is a very private, secluded and peaceful retreat. Most days the only cars to pass by are our neighbouring farmer and the postman! Included within the extensive private land which surrounds our property the picturesque fishing lake is for the use of guests only. The whole property is typical of French construction in the area with very thick stone walls & shuttered windows which make the interior cool & comfortable in summer and warm & cosy in winter. Built within a section of the barn, the very spacious accommodation is offset, attached to the rear of our house. With 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, where we can accommodate up to 10 guests, a private entrance & parking to the front and to the rear a south-facing, private decked, dining/seating area leading to the garden & pool areas and with views across the orchard and open countryside beyond. The accommodation was lovingly created and thoughtfully furnished and retains many original such as the original stone walls and a large fireplace with wood burner. Inside the ground-floor is designed to give wheelchair access and has a large open plan lounge/dining room, a separate modern kitchen area, equipped with electric cooker, microwave & dishwasher, a shower room & toilet, plus a cave-like bedroom with ensuite wet room style bathroom and air-conditioning. On the first floor there are three further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Bedroom 1 sits in the eaves of the house and is a spacious twin with air-conditioning. Bedroom 2 has a four poster bed and juliet balcony overlooking the lake. Bedroom 3 is a large family room with double and bunk beds. The bathroom has a full-sized bath and over bath shower. All bed linen, bathroom and pool towels are provided Our huge, newly stocked 6 acre private fishing lake has been here since Napoleonic times and is for the use of our guests only. It is naturally spring fed and the depth varies up to 8m. As well as being able to fish from the dam at the deepest end of the lake there are 5 purpose built swims along the north and south banks. Quality fishing tackle is available to hire or of course you can bring along your own. We have a tackle hut for overnight storage and also a bait fridge. Extra facilities provided for the use of guests include a large, decked, above ground, solar heated swimming pool, surrounded by a huge paved terrace for sunbathing, brick built /BBQ and dining area also an undercover relaxation area with hot tub and comfortable settees and this is all surrounded by flower gardens and fruit trees and we have recently added a treehouse & small zipline ride to the garden area. A large cut field just below the pool area, where you will find a swing, is designated for ball and racket games. An all weather table tennis table, badminton and boule equipment are available for guest use. We can also share our enthusiasm for target archery by providing lessons or taster sessions on our range. The property has large private fenced grounds offering the chance to stroll through the meadow seeing lots of local flora and fauna and provides some great spots for bird-watching and picnics. The 6.5 acre fishing lake has been here since pre-Napoleonic times and is set within our private grounds, surrounded by fields and woodland. It is naturally spring fed providing high quality oxygenated water. The lake is stocked with over 70 carp between 16 & 45lbs with approx half weighing over 35lbs. It has never been over fished therefore the fish are in beautiful condition and put up a great fight on the hook. We also have many tench, perch, rudd and roach plus a few pike who provide the opportunity for a little spinning. A dam sits along the western end of the lake and here the depth reaches a maximum of 8m. At the east end there is an island with a stream which feeds into the lake. The north bank (farthest from the accommodation) is flat providing easy access to three swims with purpose built wooden platforms.On the south side the bank slopes quite sharply, here there is one swim on top of the bank close to the accommodation and another in a clearing toward the shallower end of the lake where, on summer days, fish bask protected by the exposed tree roots. You can also fish anywhere along the dam where the water is at it’s deepest. You don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy this picturesque lake, the setting is beautiful and provides a peaceful place to sit and for bird/nature watching and if you fancy a walk the 1km track leads all the way around the lake.
