A spacious house in the heart of the beautiful Charente countryside surrounded by vines and set on its own in a large garden with a swimming pool for exclusive use of guests. Le Chalet is the best place to relax and unwind, all our guests enjoy the quiet secluded location. The property with its high ceilings and large rooms has been refurbished giving ample space for everyone with 3 double bedrooms, bathroom, dining room, living room, kitchen, utility and ground floor shower and wc. Free wi~fi is available. The property is set back from a country road in a substantial garden with many trees, shrubs and plenty of open space. The swimming pool for sole use is fully fenced with parasols, sun loungers and decked area which has seating and a barbecue. The nearest town is just a few minutes drive which has a supermarket, bank, Post Office, restaurants, bakeries, butchers, tabac and other shops. There is also a train station from which you can get a train to Bordeaux to the south, 1 hr 13 mins travel time or Angouleme to the north, 17 mins journey. We recommend the local restaurant in the village which offers great food and is just 1 mile away, within walking distance for a leisurely stroll for lunch or evening meal. With plenty of activities and places to visit within the area there is something for everyone. Tourist leaflets and maps are available in the house together with a guest information folder with everything you need to know for your stay. All bed linen and towels are provided. The living room with french doors is light and airy with two sofas, one being a sofa bed for extra sleeping if required, Freesat tv, wi fi, dvd player and plenty of dvd's together with games, puzzles and books for your entertainment, the dining area has a large table and chairs. The kitchen is fully fitted and well equipped including electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge, coffee machine and table with chairs. The utility has a washing machine, small freezer, sink, iron and ironing board. There is a downstairs shower and separate toilet. The upstairs has parquet flooring, three bedrooms - a king size room looking out to a view across the valley, a double bedroom and a twin bedded room, all furnished, a large family bathroom with walk in shower. Outside while away your days lounging by the swimming pool, (the pool area is fully fenced and alarmed) with parasols and sun loungers. There is a decked area with bbq and wooden picnic style table plus an additional table and chairs in the garden. The large garden with many trees and shrubs has plenty of open space for children to play, you will also find benches to sit and enjoy the moment taking in the peaceful surroundings. Some outdoor games are provided. There is an excellent restaurant in the local village just 2 kms. Just a short drive is the town of Montmoreau with a supermarket, petrol station, bank, several bakeries, numerous shops and couple of bars and restaurants. There are many places to visit in the area including Auberterrre Sur Dronne, one of the prettiest villages in France is just 20 mins drive away and a must to visit with boutique and craft shops, a great choice of restaurants and kayaking on the river Dronne and sandy beach with play area. Chateau de la Mercerie a beautiful large historic Chateau, a 1000 year old castle with panoramic views and the town of Chalais has a market every Monday which during the summer months takes over the town centre. Visit the great Cognac houses in Cognac with guided tours and tasting. Angouleme the capital of the Charente region is just 30 mins drive with plenty to see including churches, museums, painted walls and a large shopping centre plus the narrow streets of the old town bustling with restaurants. Angouleme is on the Charente river where you can hire canoes/kayaks or go on a river cruise. The Sainte-Yrieix lake just a few km from the town centre has 26 hectares of meadows, lake and activities including a sandy beach from which you can swim, hire small boats, sailing boats or boards to do a bit of windsurfing as well as a swimming pool with water slides. For the less adventurous take a stroll through the meadow along the pathways into Angouleme town centre. For chocolate lovers visit the chocolate factory just 7 km east of Angouleme in Trois-Palis. Further afield is the city of Bordeaux with its many churches, historical buildings, gardens along the quay side and not forgetting the many cafes and restaurants and of course the shopping where you can find top brand stores to boutique shops. To drive is 1 hr 20 mins or you can catch a train from Montmoreau. The coastal resort of Royan with its sandy beach is 1 hr 30 min drive or the pretty inlet harbour of Mortagne Sur Gironde with restaurants by the quay side is just over an hour. The Charente area has lots of activities including kayaking, canoeing, tree top adventures, labyrinth, Chateau's and gardens to explore, walks, hiking and cycle routes (bikes can be hired locally), horse riding, golf and wine tasting. Bordeaux airport is 1 hr 20 drive (110 k's), Bergerac Airport is 1 hr 30 drive (90 k's). The ports of Le Havre and Caen are 5 hrs drive.
