Tranquil Country Hide-away for nature lovers In A Cottage in Organic gardens.

The little cottage under the hangar adjacent to the farmhouse was built of local stone between the wars has been renovated and refurbished transforming it into a cosy and charming, comfortable holiday home from home. The cottage would be an ideal break for a couple of nature-lovers or a small family or equally a quiet hideaway for writers and painters seeking inspiration! The airy and light-filled stone cottage is cool in Summer and cosy in Spring/Autumn. Consisting of three rooms – kitchen/day room; bedroom and large en-suite shower-room and toilet all on the ground floor, the cottage would also be suitable for people with restricted mobility. Internet is available through a wifi connection. The large kitchen/day room has all the equipment you would require for a self-catering holiday and heating is by a cast-iron wood-burning stove – a joy to come home to after a ramble through the surrounding country lanes! Kindling and firewood are supplied free of charge. There is a dining table and chairs and a large L-shaped corner settee provides ample comfortable seating. The large bedroom with matching solid oak double bed and wardrobe boasts wonderful uninterrupted panoramic views over the ever-changing countryside. We have recently added a beautiful, sturdy day-bed with trundle bed underneath to this room that will accommodate two children or adults. All bed-linen including towels is supplied. We provide a welcome basket consisting of wine or apple juice, cheese, from local providers and other organic home produce – salads and veg etc are available for purchase when available and in season. We can also provide an evening meal along with the family (“table d’hôte”) by reservation giving at least a days notice. We can provide packed lunches made from our own and local organic produce on giving us a days notice also. We are currently involved in "rewilding" areas around the property to encourage, and provide increased safe habitats for wildlife; including several ponds. We also incorporate wild and natural areas into the vegetable and flower gardens. We have never used chemical treatments and permaculture ideas and methods inform our gardening; edible/useful landscaping, no-dig beds, hugelculture, polyculture etc. You are free to wander around the gardens and fields, there are benches in shady spots but feel free to find your own lovely spot to read, sketch, paint, snooze! There are tables and chairs with parasol provided for eating outdoors. There is parking in the private courtyard off the road. Although we are situated in a rural area, there is plenty to do and visit within a few kilometers; pretty mediaeval villages and towns, country parks and gardens, visitor attractions for local and national authors, painters, film-makers/actors. The area is ideal for those enjoying outdoor pursuits and sports with nearby horse-riding, golf, kayaking etc. Babies and small children who are continually under adult supervision are welcome as are older children who are aware of the potential dangers; so please get in touch to discuss this before booking. Travel cots and fold-away single beds can be added to the bedroom on request.
