Our cottage is ideal for people who want to explore the real rural Portugal from a tranquil base, walking, birdwatching, swimming in lakes and rivers, meeting the locals and seeing the traditional way of life At the end of the day the cottage is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine, and/or have a BBQ on your own private patio overlooking the garden and surrounding hills. We have recently made available a plunge pool at the bottom of the garden. It’s 2.3 meters square. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine whilst cooling off and being one with nature. We are here to help make your holiday special and memorable. We are on hand for any advice and we also know that your privacy is of the upmost importance. We spent 5 years running a successful self catering unit in Madeira. The cottage is in front of the main house, but is completely private. The bedroom has a comfortable bed with an en suite bathroom and a spacious shower. Apart from window blinds, we have a blackout curtain. We have satellite Internet and cable TV. The kitchen has a gas hob. It has all you need to prepare you meals comfortably. The property is in a small traditional village with only 3 occupied properties. It even has it's own Capela (don't worry, the bell doesn't get rung). Our neighbour would proudly show you inside. The altar piece is 360 years old! There are numerous walks around the property where you can explore the area. Bird life is abundant here from the Spanish Imperial eagle to owls, woodpeckers and many more. You will also hear the gentle running water from the stream below the property. The stars at night are amazing. The nearest two towns are Arganil and Tabua. They are 15 minutes and 20 minutes away respectively. There you will find supermarkets,coffee shops, post offices, banks etc. There is a petrol station with an ATM just 5 minutes away. A number of traditional restaurants are a 5 to 10 minute drive away that serve very reasonably priced good hearty Portuguese food. There is even a traditional English pub 20 minutes drive away. Fabulous staff. Food is great and value for money. We are a 45 minute drive to Coimbra, which has the second oldest University in Europe. This is definitely worth a visit. The river beaches are a must. The town of Coja, just 10 minutes from us, is well known and popular amongst locals and tourists. The beautiful waterfall at Fraga da Pena is 10 minutes from Coja. Piodao, in the mountains of the Serra de Acor, an hours drive away, is famous for their unique schist villages. There is much more which we will have in a file for you to peruse.
