There’s also ample storage and wardrobe space so you can fully unpack and settle in. In the mornings, when you want to freshen up, just head through to the well-appointed bathroom, where you can enjoy an energising shower. Towels and toiletries are provided. If you have any questions, please get in touch. ## Neighbourhood With exciting new galleries and upmarket food stops appearing across the neighbourhood, Chamberí is most definitely experiencing it’s “moment” in recent years. This change is typified by the opening of the excellent Galería Machado-Muñoz in 2015, a contemporary design and furniture gallery with rolling exhibitions of incredible modern design. Despite its gentrification and move into being considered a trendy area, the neighbourhood still retains a certain authentic charm. Locations such as Plaza de Chamberí, with playgrounds for youngsters and meeting places for friends, and the Mercado de Chamberí, with fruit, veg, bread and meat stalls, show off the charm of the local area from a local perspective. For anyone interested in urban transport, the old Chamberí Metro station was closed in the 1960s but has been kept alive as a museum exploring the history of the city’s metro system. Chamberí is also considered the centre of Madrid’s Jewish population and is home to the city’s main Synagogue. Finally, film buffs may enjoy walking the streets of Chamberí and recognising locations from the films of Pedro Almodóvar, who often used the neighbourhood in his movies. As far as great food is concerned, try beginning your day with a luxurious brunch at Perrachica, where beautifully prepared eggs benedict and crepes are the top choices. For a more casual dinner, try Tierra Burrito Bar for their Mexican inspired menu. Tierra is now a chain with many locations across the city, but Chamberí boasts the original location. For great seafood, you simply have to head to La Máquina de Chamberí and try the Bilbao-style salted sea bass or the grilled turbot. For a trendy drinking spot in the evening, head to Whitby for a New York-inspired bar, complete with rusted iron beans and filament bulb lighting. Fide is also a popular cerveceria with the local residents and has an excellent atmosphere, especially on the weekends.
