Maison du Bonheur (literal meaning the happy house!) is a beautiful stone house in the heart of rural Brittany just a few minutes walk from the pretty village of Plésidy. The house has been renovated and decorated to a high standard and is fully equipped with all that is needed for a self-catering holiday. ACCOMMODATION IN MORE DETAIL: Through the front door is an entrance hallway with a WC. LIVING ROOM: On the left is the cozy sitting room with comfortable seating for 5 guests. Also a log burner for cooler evenings. A flat screen TV is provided with UK and French channels. KITCHEN/DINER The well equipped kitchen includes a built in electric oven and microwave, gas hob, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Also an integral coffee machine. The dining table has six seats. FIRST FLOOR: The lovely wooden staircase (uncarpeted) leads to the first floor. Here there are three bedrooms. Bedroom 1: Double bed and fitted wardrobes with plenty of cupboard and drawer space. Also a dressing table. Bedroom 2: Double bed and corner sink unit Bedroom 3: Single bed SHOWER ROOM: Shower cabinet, WC and wash basin. OUTSIDE: The beautiful outside space, with its well maintained garden, is next to the magnificent 18th century church. There is an outside eating area with table, chairs and parasol for dining “al fresco” on a warm summer evening. A charcoal barbecue is provided. In the outhouse is a washing machine. Also a table tennis table for guest use. LOCAL AREA: Just a few minutes walk from the house is the pretty village of Plésidy. Here you will find a boulangerie for your morning croissants and pastries. Also a bar/restaurant and small grocery shop. A little further away is the town of Bourbriac where there is a supermarket. NEARBY: At Saint Connan, just 6kms away is the fishing lake, Etang Neuf. The town of Guingamp is well worth visiting. Just a 15 minute drive from the house. Many beautiful buildings can be found here, some in the “colombage” style. Also the basilique Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours. Under an hour’s drive is the stunning pink granite coast. The beautiful beaches, notably Paimpol and Perros Guirec, are renowned for the colour (pink) of the unusual stone formations. Also on the north coast is Plage des Rosaires, a sweeping sandy stretch with several bars, restuarants and cafés. The town of Saint Brieuc, on the north coast has a cathedral and plenty of shops. Perfect for some retail therapy. There are numerous bars and restaurants here. Or you could visit nearby Binic, a pretty seaside town with a marina. BRITTANY REGION Brittany offers a wealth of varied landscapes - beautiful sandy beaches, deep forests and medieval towns, easily accessible from Plésidy. Brittany is easily accessible from the UK via several Ferry Ports and is also served by flights from the UK to 4 French airports. From spectacular beaches with rugged coastlines to vast sandy expanses, to peaceful woods and forests and the famous Nantes-Brest Canal, Brittany has all the makings of a perfect holiday. The cuisine in the area includes crepes and galettes and of course the seafood! Mussels and oysters are available throughout the region, particularly in the summer months. Cider is produced here and local varieties are available in all supermarkets and restaurants. During the summer numerous villages and town celebrate the "Pardon" which is predominantly a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.
