Hand - wired Tube Preamp with vintage RCA
Beskrivelse av varen
Tilstand: Pent brukt – I god stand
Gitartype: El-gitarer
Amazing and very rare tube preamp handmade by Morten Finsrud with best parts (possible) on The market.
This is an incredibly versatile pedal that offers many possibilities. Can be used for everything from clean boost to a typical treble booster or pure overdrive, depending on how you tune it. Stylish avocado-green colour.
This and similar models are used on The boards of several well-known guitarists.
Heres some more detailed info from The maker:
I have constructed this tube preamp with a 5963 tube, which is compatible with a 12AU7 tube (ECC82).
The pre-amp has volume, gain and tone control. In addition, I have made an input switch where you can select low-end cutoff. This means that you have a number of options if, for example, you change a guitar with single coil pickups to one with humbuckers.
The cutoff (fc) frequencies are:
fc pos.0 = 450Hz, fc pos. 1 = 60Hz and fc pos.2 = 225Hz
The lowest frequency on a guitar (normal tuning 440Hz) is 82Hz, so in position 1 you get all the frequencies. The filter is a passive filter and reduces the signal by 6db per octave.
The tone control is a treble reduction and has fc = 800Hz, especially nice to be able to remove a little treble when using single coil pickups.
The pre-amp can be set so that you get a clean booster, or you can turn up the Gain so that it distorts and get a delicious crunch sound. Many possibilities here.
The box is primed with aluminum primer and painted in the color avocado green, it has also been given two layers of clear lacquer.
I have used a DC-DC converter which turns 9V into a stable 6.3V voltage for the glow on the tube. A little about the 5963 tube that stands out from other tubes normally used in guitar amplifiers.
The 5963 tube is manufactured by RCA and was introduced in 1954. The tube is designed to be able to stand for a long time in standby, (i.e. the glow can be left on without current flowing from the anode to the cathode) and the tube was therefore widely used to control relays is. The tube has a special construction to regenerate the emitting Barium layer on the cathode, which occurs in an electrolysis process when current flows between the electrodes. This special construction makes the tube suitable for low-voltage circuits such as this pre-amp.
I have made 3 of this, 2 for sale and a prototype I have kept myself.
Personally I was using it as preamp to get more of this warm tube sounding and extra push to tube amp.
