The e behind the 370e means Sayonara has an epoxy hull, the more expensive option, but ensuring a stronger hull and safeguard against osmosis.
We live in Norway and are the proud owners of Sayonara. We purchased her in 2022 in the Mediterranean from a Norwegian couple who had lovingly prepared her in Norway for a year of sailing in the Mediterranean in 2022. Their preparations included replacing the through hole skin fittings with modern composite fittings, new batteries, rig check and replacing most running rigging. The previous owner was working for the RS (Norway’s equivalent of the RNLI) which gave us extra confidence in the boat he had chosen and his preparations for its voyage to the Med. Prior to his ownership the boat had been owned for most of its life by an owner who did gentle cruising in the Oslo Fjord and according to the previous owner spared no expense on keeping her in good condition. The Hanse 370e is a handsome looking boat and is closer to a 400 then a 350 in size. It is one of few boats in its class having 3 cabins and a bathroom leading onto a separate shower. The fore cabin is spacious with good sized cupboards on either side. The aft cabins are also roomy as the boat has a breadth of 375cm
The sailing characteristics of the Hanse 370 are particularly good. The boat is equipped with a self-tacking jib which makes for very easy sailing. The large mainsail, with four battens, lazy lines and lazy bag is easily to reef. For light downwind sailing, the boat is equipped with a stocking gennaker and a small point in the bow that gives clearance to the bowsprit. There is an electric winch for hoisting and trimming sails if you do not want to do it manually. The traveller in the cockpit increases control and puts less wear on the boom, and handling is also easy. This is a boat that is easily sailed by one person. The boat is very light on the helm and well-balanced placing little strain on the autopilot that the previous told me steered flawlessly in the 3 m swells crossing Biscay. The boat clearly likes it best under sail and has great speed potential. Mediterranean berthing is the norm in Greece, so the single rudder makes for easy maneuvering under reverse. Having owned a Hanse ourselves, in Norway some years ago we are fans of the Hanse designs and fell for Sayonara because of how well looked after and equipped she was. Having spent most of its life in Norway the teak deck is very good looking.
Since buying Sayonara in November 2022, we have had two wonderful and happy years sailing and exploring the beautiful Ionian in Greece. During the winters and mid summer, the boat has been kept safely ashore at a mariner in Preveza.
We have regularly serviced the engine, and in 2024 commissioned a complete overhaul of her Yanmar sail-drive, an expensive but worthwhile exercise.
We have upgraded Sayonara for Med sailing by installing an exceptionally well-built stainless steel arch on her stern to hold our newly installed solar panels, provide shade over the helm, support our inflatable and our passerelle. We also replaced the aluminum and old sprayhood with stainless steel and a new sprayhood with opening window. Our new Victron solar system produces well more than our requirements but offers opportunities for additional power hungry add ons.
Our experience of keeping a boat in Greece
We have been incredibly impressed at the ease of, and facilities in Greece for keeping a boat.
Preveza airport is just a few kilometers from where our boat is kept.
The large boat yards such as Cleopatra, Aktio and Ionian in Preveza store thousands of boats ashore. Very professionally managed with friendly and competent staff.
Formalities in keeping a foreign flagged boat in Greece are reasonably straightforward, and I am happy to share my experiences and tips.
Observations
We have not experienced any leaks and the bilges are clean, stone dry, and with no sign of ever having leaked.
No signs of oil leakage from our well maintained and serviced Yanmar engine. Our Yanmar service mechanic speaks highly of the reliability of the Yanmar 3JH4E 40 HP model fitted on Sayonara.
No reports or signs of any serious grounding to the keel
I am very happy with the sails and their condition. This year I have had the mainsail serviced and an extra reef fitted and new batons.
There is a light bend in the aluminum toe rail up front which the previous owner pointed out to to me but poses no problem, so I have left it.
After an incident caused by another boat, which dragged anchor and drifted onto our long stern line, we sailed back to our boatyard and had the rudder removed, for internal inspection. The rudder tip was damaged but has been expertly repaired and a new bearing fitted.
Why are we selling:
Having sailed extensively along the coasts of Norway with our previous yacht we wanted to spend a couple of years exploring Greece and were fortunate to find Sayonara 2 for sale in the Med having sailed south from Norway. We love Greece and have had a fabulous time but now is time for our next adventure, and very sadly there are not enough days in the year to fully commit to all we want to do.
