About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a 4-year, temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. 

The postdoctoral position will be part of the GEMS-R research unit and is a result of the department’s focus on the field of prosthetics and orthotics, in connection with movement science and physiotherapy. The postdoctoral candidate, with Prof. Karin Roeleveld as mentor and in collaboration with experts from NTNU and Trøndelag Orthopedic Workshop, will contribute to develop research-based knowledge on the design of orthoses and prostheses for increased physical function and physical activity. The research is expected to include ankle foot orthosis and/or lower limb prosthetic fitting in combination with motion analyses. The postdoctoral fellow can also contribute with their own research interests in prosthetics and orthotics on lower limb rehabilitation.

This 4-yearposition is available immediately with intended start not later than August 15, 2025. 

Your immediate leader is Head of the Research Unit for Geriatrics, eHealth, Movement, Stroke and Rehabilitation (GEMS-R)


Duties of the position
  • Contribute to research on lower limb orthotics and prosthetics for increased physical function and activity from ethical applications to data collection and dissemination to the scientific community and relevant profession- and user groups
  • Contribute to the further development of research and teaching competence relevant to orthotics and prosthetics in Trondheim and Norway
  • Teaching and supervision of students 
  • Contribute to grant applications

Required selection criteria
  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in Medicine and Health, Medical Technology or a similar area.
  • If you can document that the PhD thesis will be submitted within Mai 2025, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation. Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position.
  • You must have good oral and written presentation skills in English 

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.


Preferred selection criteria
  • Research experience related to prosthetics or orthotics
  • Research experience with 3D motion analysis
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 4 years in a full-time position (100%), of which 20% is allocated to teaching and supervision duties. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to acquire basic educational competence during their fellowship period within the teaching-duty component of 20%.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis. 

Working from home can be agreed upon with your leader.

 


About the application

  • transcripts and diplomas for bachelor's-,master's- and PhD degrees. If you have not yet completed your Ph.D, you must provide confirmation on your estimated date for the doctoral dissertation, or that your PhD thesis has been submitted
  • A copy of the doctoral thesis. If you are close to submitting, or have recently submitted your thesis, you can attach a draft of the thesis. Documentation of a completed doctoral degree must be presented before taking up the position.
  • Research plan: a description of how you envisage contributing to the research, possibly including a short project description (in total maximal 2 pages) 
  • Academic works - published or unpublished - that you would like to be considered in the assessment (up to 5 items)
  • Name and contact information of three referees

You are encouraged to include an application letter where you explain your motivation and qualifications for the position (maximal 1 page).
