About the position / About the job

At the Faculty of Dentisty, Insitute of Clinical Dentistry, a permanent position (100%) as Associate Professor is available. 

We are looking for a colleague who will be responsible for establishing and coordinating a new Master ‘s programme in Biomaterials for functional tissue reconstruction, and, together with colleagues, contribute to excellence in research and teaching.

The candidate will work in close collaboration with the the research center Functional tissue reconstruction (FUTURE), consisting of the Department of Biomaterials and the Oral Research laboratory. The institute is seeking a candidate with a strong background and track record in stem cell and developmental biology, in cell culture, cell-biomaterial interactions, tissue engineering, inflammation studies, and tissue regeneration. The ideal candidate will also have extensive experience in cell differentiation analysis and biocompatibility assessment in biomaterial-based approaches, for cell-biomaterial interactions in tissue engineering, inflammation and tissue regeneration studies.
The candidate should be in an active phase of his or her career, and have experience in acquiring and managing large externally financed projects in the field.


More about the position / Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish, coordinate and teach in a new 2-year Master’s programme in Biomaterials for functional tissue reconstruction, in English.
  • Managing and delivering specialized courses for master's students in biocompatibility and the role of expert curation in artificial intelligence to develop databases and tools for utilizing large biological datasets.
  • Undertaking subject-specific research. the position in more detail and/or present the project description.

Requirements:
  • Fluent in English
  • A PhD and research experience in cell-biomaterial interactions and omics approaches for tissue regeneration studies.
  • A solid understanding of in vitro techniques for various cell types and the concept of biocompatibility both in vitro and in vivo.
  • Experienced in supervising master’s students and capable of adapting teaching methods to address the diverse academic backgrounds of students.
  • Comfortable teaching tissue engineering, biocompatibility assessment techniques, and systemic adverse effects to students coming from various disciplines.
  • Experience with Canvas, flipped classroom teaching techniques, web based courses, and open-source tools and applications.
  • The ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within a university setting.
  • The appointee must be able to lead and initiate research, supervise doctoral degree students, participate in teaching and examination work at all levels, and undertake administrative tasks, in accordance with applicable provisions. 

Desirable:

  • Proficient in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
  • Formal pedagogical qualifications would be advantageous, although development is offered as part of the appointment.
  • Experience with web frameworks, Internet services such as email, web, and database servers. 
  • An existing work-permit for Norway, although application can be made for the right candidate.
  • Large national- and international network of collaborators.
  • Capable of designing and analysing surveys.

Qualification requirements

  • A PhD in a relevant field, or competence at an equivalent level documented through scientific work of the same scope and quality.
  • Basic university pedagogical competence according to UiO's guidelines. Applicants who cannot document basic university pedagogical competence at the time of employment must acquire this within two years of employment.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Norwegian and English is a prerequisite for performing all the duties of the position. Applicants who cannot document Norwegian language skills at the B2 level (or another Scandinavian language) must be able to document this within three years of employment.
