The position is affiliated with the research group "Healthy Workplaces" at the Department of Psychology, NTNU. The research group has specialization in Work and Organizational Psychology focusing on measures to promote health in the workplace. Thus, they also engage in implementation research to determine the best methods for integrating new knowledge into various workplaces. The successful candidate will join a leading international research environment in Europe, focusing on occupational health psychology and intervention research, with an expansive global network.
Your leader is the Head of the Department of Psychology.
Duties of the position
In the role of postdoctoral fellow, you will work in several projects focusing on work and health. Your main task will be to work in a project that aims to investigate the factors influencing the retention of teachers in Norway, with the goal of improving working conditions and attracting more teachers by identifying key job characteristics that encourage them to remain in the profession. Your task includes data collection through qualitative interviews, surveys, and the performance of analysis (thematic analysis and discrete choice experiment analysis using advanced regression methods). You will also participate in the writing of scientific articles and are expected to participate in work with joint grant applications. The position also involves participating in teaching, supervision, and contributing to the development of the research group.
Required selection criteria
- You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in Work and Organizational Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, Health Economics or similar fields. If you can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation.
- Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position. This eligibility requirement must be met at the latest at the time when the employment decision is made.
- Documented knowledge of qualitative and or quantitative methods.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
If you do not already have educational competence that meets the requirements for a position as associate professor in Norway, NTNU will arrange for you to acquire such competence during the employment period. In such cases, you will also be assigned relevant teaching as part of the career-promoting work.
If you cannot document skills in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish at level A2 upon employment, you must complete Norwegian courses corresponding to at least 15 credits before the end of the employment period. NTNU will facilitate this.
As a result of the new Act relating to universities and university colleges with associated regulations of 01.08.2024, NTNU has, during a transitional period (for decisions on employment in recruitment positions before 01.08.2025), chosen to use the terms of employment in the old regulations of 31 January 2006 no. 102 on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, scientific assistant and specialist candidate.
If the appointment is made after 01.08.25, the appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations for the Universities and Colleges Act (university and colleges regulations) and Regulations for the degrees philosophiae doctor (ph.d.) and philosophiae doctor (ph.d.) in artistic development work at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) for general criteria for the position.
Preferred selection criteria
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with experience in qualitative and quantitative research in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, Health Economics or similar. For the position, we prefer that you have:
- good, documented knowledge of research methods using statistical tools such as R or STATA.
- knowledge of collection, analysis, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data.
- documented experience in Work and Organizational Psychology research areas preferably, but not limited to, turnover, retention, attendance, sickness absence, and organizational attractiveness.
- It is advantageous if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years. However, earlier completion may be considered in special circumstances, such as parental leave.
- Good written and oral skills in a Scandinavian language.

Salary and conditions
As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 4 years.
The position is conditional on external funding.
As an employee at NTNU, it is important to keep yourself up to date with academic and organizational changes and to adapt to them.
For the necessary professional and social interaction, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis.
The appointment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employees Act, and Export control (legislation that regulates the export of knowledge, technology and services). Candidates who, after assessment of the application and attachments, are considered to be in conflict with the criteria in the latter act, will not be able to be employed.
