About Us: Advancements in information technology are reshaping the landscape of pathology, and we are at the forefront of this transformation. The strategic research project "Pathology services in the Western Norway Health Region – a centre for applied digitization", based in both Stavanger and Bergen, is driving the development of AI models to support pathology departments and pathologists in their diagnostic work, with a particular focus on cancer, chronic kidney disease, and workflow optimization. The research group has recently secured additional funding for a follow-up project titled "Advancing AI-enhanced pathology diagnostics of chronic kidney disease: Identifying, visualizing, and interpreting prognostic features."
Position Overview: We are currently seeking dynamic and skilled individuals to join our team as Data Engineers. These positions are integral to the development, validation, and testing of AI algorithms on digital pathology images, addressing both tumorous and inflammatory conditions. The successful candidates will actively contribute to ongoing research and innovation in the group by solving problems related to data management, data infrastructure, model testing, software development and by supporting students from Bachelor to PhD levels.

Work tasks
- Development, validation, and testing of AI algorithms on digital pathology images, addressing both tumorous and inflammatory conditions
- Contribute to ongoing research and innovation in the group by solving problems related to data management, data infrastructure, model testing, and by software development
- Supporting students from Bachelor to PhD levels in technical/programming and data-related questions
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field. Relevant work experience can compensate for a lack of formal education
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R, JavaScript), technologies (e.g., git, docker), databases (e.g., SQL, REDCap)
- Expertise in management and analyses of clinical data and images
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
Desired qualifications:
- Experience with working in different operating systems, setup ad operation of Linux-based OS
- Experience in data management planning for scientific study projects
- Experience in organizing data-handling tools and databases
- Experience in data visualization, data analysis and statistical analysis
- Previous experience working at the intersection of technology and healthcare
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary environments.
