Beskrivelse
NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Informatics at the Department of Business and Management Science.
The Department of Business and Management Science has high ambitions in terms of research and offers a stimulating work environment. The department delivers teaching and supervision in NHH’s programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels, as well as executive programs. The main activities are organised in five broad research areas: i) Managerial Economics and Business Strategy ii) Business Taxation iii) Asset Management and Risk Analysis iv) Energy Markets, Resource Management and Sustainability v) Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management. The department is multi-disciplinary, and the research covers both empirical and theoretical inquiries. For more information, please consult our webpage.
The department is seeking ambitious candidates early in their careers who can document relevant research and teaching capabilities. The department aims to strengthen its capacity in informatics and computer science.
The candidate is expected to fulfill the growing need for informatics expertise at NHH, encompassing two primary objectives. First, the candidate should actively engage in teaching responsibilities at all levels, particularly within the recently launched Bachelor’s Program in Business, Economics, and Data Science (BEDS) and the master profile in Business Analytics. Second, the candidate is expected to integrate into one or more of the research groups within the department.
The candidate appointed to the position must be able to teach courses such as Introduction to Programming and Information Technology, Programming and Application Design, Algorithms and Computer Programming with Python and Application Development with Python. The ability to teach a wider set of methodology courses relevant for business students will be appreciated.
A successful candidate should be able to deliver high-quality teaching at all levels. The candidate should document plans for using innovative teaching methods and learning activities in introductory programming courses. Experience with teaching introductory programming to business students is of particular interest. The ability to act as coach for NHH’s extracurricular programming club will also be emphasised.
Teaching quality and the ability to engage large classes is an important criterion. This will be evaluated through documented evidence of previous teaching experience in a recognised academic program, interaction with students and student evaluations.
The position involves teaching on average two courses per year as well as some graduate supervision. Candidates who cannot document at least 200 hours of pedagogical coursework when hired, must complete the NHH program on basic pedagogical competence within two years.
A demonstrated ability to win research grants, cooperate with external partners, manage research projects and disseminate research results will be emphasised. The ability to combine research in informatics and computer science with topics of relevance for other research areas in the department will also be emphasised.
Applicants must have a PhD degree from a recognised business school or university and must demonstrate high quality in both research and teaching. Research quality will be evaluated based on publications in well-recognised international journals and research potential through a pipeline of working papers. Qualified candidates will normally have at least two publications in ABS level 3/Norwegian level 2 journals or above, as well as an active research program with the potential for publication in top academic journals. In the assessment of applicants, international experience will be weighted positively.
NHH is a one campus business school, and the place of work is Bergen. The candidate appointed to the position is expected to interact and cooperate on research with colleagues, attend faculty seminars, take part in recruitment processes, and other activities that aim to strengthen the research and social environment at NHH and the department.
NHH needs to improve its gender balance. In the event of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.
NHH offers
- a competitive salary that is negotiable within the state salary scale. The salary will depend both on the level of competence and length of service. External research grants and teaching in executive programs may offer exceptional candidates opportunities for supplementing the base salary.
- a favorable membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) and good welfare benefits such as parental leave.
- research funds for traveling and conference participation and a bonus system for publication in top international journals (up to NOK 200 000).
- opportunity to apply for research leave. The period of entitlement for six months’ research leave is six semesters and twelve semesters for a year's leave. Female associate professors can earn the first two years of research leave in half the normal time, and they can receive an annual NOK 35 000 top-up research grant during their first three years of service at NHH.
Note that public health care, public schooling for children, and most other public services are free in Norway. The city of Bergen has a mild, coastal climate and offers rich opportunities for culture and outdoor activities - as well as a family-friendly environment (explore visitnorway.com).
